“Let us begin, brothers, to serve the Lord our God, for up to now we have made little or no progress.”
– St. Francis of Assisi
If someone should wish adopt the life of a Transitus Oblate, they should first consider the cost. “Which one of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion?” For the way of the Gospel is difficult, as Jesus said, “How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.” Of the many that are invited, few will choose. And of the few, “many will attempt to enter but not be strong enough.”
Therefore, let them put aside all attachment as well as every care and worry. Let them only be concerned to serve, love, adore, and honor the Lord God, as best they can, with single-heartedness and purity of intention. Within the temple and monastery of their bodies and the cell and sanctuary of their souls, let them always make a dwelling place and home for the Blessed Lord God Almighty (Father, Son and Holy Ghost), so that with undivided hearts they may increase in universal love by continually turning to God and to neighbor. “Whoever loves Me will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.” (John 14:23)
To be a member of Transitus, the inquirer must fill out and submit the Membership Application and wait for a response (via e-mail, or when necessary, a letter or phone call) from a member of the Council of Directors. The applicant should receive word within a month (sometimes immediately or within a few days) that their application has been received though it could take longer depending upon the details of the application or the schedule of those reviewing the application.
Each applicant--to demonstrate their understanding of the nature and purpose of Transitus, and their assent to its Rule and School of Perfection--must write and submit a brief paragraph (or more) describing (in their own words) what it means to be a “lay monastic” and in particular, a Transitus Oblate, including any other pertinent information.
Each applicant is required to submit the name(s) of a patron Saint(s), which will serve as their official name in Transitus, and will be listed between their first and last legal name. Each applicant is free to use their Baptism or Confirmation name or they may choose a new one (no more than two). If the applicant does not choose a patron Saint(s), one (or two) will be chosen for them by the Council of Directors.
The admission process may require communication back and forth but only that which is necessary for questions and clarifications before moving forward. Once the inquirer has received word that their application has been approved, the applicant is required to celebrate (privately or publicly, alone or with others) the rite of admission (the Act of Oblation to Divine Merciful Love), thus proclaiming their fidelity to the Gospel through their covenant promises and obedience to the Transitus Rule as a Member.
